Tennessee Mother Charged with Murder in Deaths of Young Children

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — A 28-year-old woman is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, after authorities say she killed her 1-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter.

Johnson City Police have charged Jessica Chandler with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree felony murder, two counts of aggravated child abuse, and two counts of aggravated assault on a first responder.

According to the police report, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1900 block of Omaha Lane at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Tennessee Mother Implicated in Children’s Deaths Faces Multiple Charges

Police in Johnson City, Tennessee, have filed multiple charges against 28-year-old Jessica Chandler, accusing her of killing her 1-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter. Officers were called to a home in the 1900 block of Omaha Lane around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, where they discovered the bodies of the two children.

Authorities say Chandler was found at the scene with what appeared to be self-inflicted, superficial cuts on her arms and legs. During the initial response, Chandler reportedly brandished a knife at both police and EMS personnel. She was quickly detained and transported to a nearby hospital.

Investigators state that three handwritten notes left at the scene directly implicate Chandler in the murders. Final autopsy and toxicology reports are still pending.

Chandler, who currently remains hospitalized under continuous police supervision, faces two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree felony murder, two counts of aggravated child abuse, and two counts of aggravated assault on a first responder. Upon her release from the hospital, she is expected to be booked into the Washington County Detention Center.
