Police Officer Adopts Abused Toddler He Rescued
Lt. Brian Zach of the Kingman Police Department in Arizona met 2-year-old Kaila during a night shift in March 2018. Responding to a call about the severely injured child, Zach was reminded of a haunting case from 2011 involving a young victim he couldn’t save.
Determined not to let history repeat itself, Zach comforted Kaila that night by coloring and watching Wreck-It Ralph. Over the next two and a half years, she became a central part of his life.
In August 2020, Kaila was officially adopted by Zach and his wife, Cierra. Reflecting on their first meeting, Zach recalls, “She was just the cutest little girl that immediately tugged at my heart.” Now, Kaila is thriving as part of their loving family.
